PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
OceanaGold New Zealand engaged Auryn Mining Advisory to evaluate and develop extraction plans for remnant mining opportunities at the Frasers Underground Mine (FRUG) on the South Island of New Zealand. The project aimed to identify additional economic ore sources that could be rapidly incorporated into the existing mine plan to sustain production and extend the operation’s life during the transition to a nearby new mine development.
Working in close collaboration with OceanaGold’s geology, geotechnical and mine engineering teams, our consultants undertook a detailed review of remnant zones across the mine, including regional geotechnical pillars and key corridor areas. Using Deswik.CAD and Deswik.Sched, the team prepared conceptual mine designs and extraction sequences, conducted a series of optimisations to identify additional remnant opportunities, and developed concept-level economic assessments for each target area. Site inspections and technical review workshops were completed to verify ground conditions, validate design assumptions, and ensure alignment with operational priorities and risk management standards.
The engagement identified and ranked several high-potential remnant mining areas, delivering conceptual designs suitable for further evaluation and inclusion in the near-term mine plan. The outcomes supported targeted resource drilling and the development of tailored risk management strategies for remnant extraction. Collectively, the work provided OceanaGold with a technically robust framework that extended the operation’s Life of Mine by approximately two years, maintaining a stable production profile while the nearby Golden Point Underground mine was developed and brought into full production.
